Philanthropic Scott Launches Asia Foundation

Singapore (September 11): Australian Adam Scott has launched a Singapore-based Asia Foundation to offer under-privileged youth in the region opportunities to fulfill their potential. The Adam Scott Foundation Asia will be an extension of his Australian Foundation that was established in 2005. Scott, a two-time winner of the Singapore Open, said: “As I travelled the world playing professional golf and getting to live my dream it became apparent to me how fortunate I was to be offered the opportunity of following my chosen career path but not everyone has that fortune."

ST. LOUIS – Camilo Villegas gave golf fans a real reason to pay attention to him – a trophy. A marketing dream with his model looks and stylish dress, Villegas won for the first time on the PGA Tour with three big putts on the back nine at Bellerive on Sunday for a wire-to-wire victory in the BMW Championship. Villegas closed with a 2-under 68 for a two-shot victory over Dudley Hart, who birdied the final two holes to earn a trip to the Masters with his highest finish in two years.

Omega China Tour: Tsai Shows There's No Substitute For Experience

Chengdu (September 7): Chinese Taipei’s Tsai Chi-huang shot a calculated closing 68 to win the inaugural RMB800,000 Luxehills Golf Championship in Chengdu with an 18-under total of 270, the lowest winning score on this year’s Omega China Tour. Liao Guiming, winner of May’s Sofitel Golf Championship, also shot a 68 to finish on 15-under, one ahead of big-hitting Yuan Hao, whose spirited challenge faded when he bogeyed holes 15, 16 and 17 before birdieing the last for a 69 at the Luxehills International Country Club. China National Team amateurs, in matching blue tops, occupied positions four to six. Third-round co-leader Zhang Xinjun, 21, fell back with a 75 to finish 11-under, two ahead of 16-year-old Benny Ye Jianfeng, who shot 71, while 26-year-old Kevin Huang Wenyi also had a 71 to finish on four-under. Fellow team member David Wei Wei, also 26, posted a 73 to finish tied ninth on one-under.

LPGA Says Sorry And Backs Down On The "I No Speakee English" Controversy!

PORTLAND, Ore. (September 5):The LPGA has decided to rescind penalty provisions of its new “effective communications policy” that previously had proposed suspensions for international tour members who did not pass an oral English evaluation after two years on tour. The LPGA will announce a revised plan by the end of 2008 – but the new plan will not include penalties. “We have decided to rescind those penalty provisions,” Bivens said in a statement released by the LPGA Friday. “After hearing the concerns, we believe there are other ways to achieve our shared objective of supporting and enhancing the business opportunities for every tour player.”

Asian Tour To Co-Sanction Omega European Masters

Crans-sur-Sierre (September 5): The Asian Tour will jointly sanction the Omega European Masters in 2009 with the European Tour, officials said in a landmark announcement today. The prestigious event, staged annually at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Switzerland, will be the first ever tournament on European soil to be co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour. Omega, whose extensive participation in the world of global sports includes its role as Official Timekeeper at 23 Olympic Games, became the title sponsor of the tournament in 2001 following a decade-long partnership with the European Masters. Stephen Urquhart, president of Omega, is particularly looking forward to next year’s tournament, saying: “At Omega we are excited about the emergence of golf as a truly global sport. We commend both the Asian and European Tours for following up on our initiative and implementing our proposal that the two Tours join forces.”
