Harrington Pledges His Future To Wilson Staff Clubs

Chicago (October 23): Wilson Golf, the Chicago-based company whose irons have captured more Major titles than any other manufacturer, has reached an agreement to re-sign reigning Open and US PGA champion Padraig Harrington. The multi-year contract was approved just one week after Harrington was named 2008 PGA Player of the Year, and quells speculation that Harrington was considering competing offers. The terms of the new contract, which were signed in Dublin, Ireland, set a record for Wilson Golf and ensure that the popular Irishman will carry the distinctive red and white Wilson Staff bag as he seeks to complete a Grand Slam of Majors in 2009, starting with the US Masters next April.

Mission Hills' Chairman Chu Ranks With The Best Of Them

Shenzhen (October 21): Dr David Chu, chairman, of China's Mission Hills Group, has been ranked number nine on Golf Inc's list of the 'Most Powerful People in Golf' in its October 2008 issue. Chu, founder of Mission Hills and instrumental consultant for Beijing's successful bid to host the 2008 summer Games, moved up seven spots from his 2007 debut at #16 and is the highest-ranked non-American. This is the largest one-year jump since Golf Inc began the rankings and comes in only the second year leadership positions outside the United States have been included.

Sweet Taste Of Success For 17-Year-Old Korean Sensation Noh

Guangzhou (October 19): Korean teenager Noh Seung-yul became the third youngest winner on the Asian Tour after claiming the US$500,000 Midea China Classic title on Sunday. The 17-year-old Noh fought off a spirited challenge from Terry Pilkadaris of Australia by posting a three-under-par 68 for a winning 17-under-par 267 total. That was one shot ahead of the 34-year-old Australian. Singapore's Mardan Mamat enjoyed his third top-10 Asian Tour finish of his season, ending tied for third with Korean Park Jun-won and Chinese Taipei's Lu Wei-chih on 269.

Setback As Seve Undergoes Second Operation

London (October 17): Seve Ballesteros has undergone further surgery after his condition deteriorated following an operation to remove a brain tumour. The Spanish golf legend was recovering from surgery he had to remove the tumour on Tuesday when doctors took the decision to operate again. The procedure was needed to reduce pressure on Ballesteros' brain. A statement from the La Paz hospital in Madrid read: "The patient is stable and remains under observation in the intensive care unit having undergone a decompressive craniectomy after suffering from a decrease in the level of consciousness due to a cerebral edema."

Curtis, a member of the triumphant American Ryder Cup team, will be partnered by Brandt Snedeker, one of the rising stars on the US PGA Tour. Indian Victory Sees Liang's Stock Continue To Soar

Singapore (October 14): Chinese star Liang Wen-chong insists his game is still a work-in-progress after enjoying a second victory on the Asian Tour on Sunday. The tenacious Liang, the reigning Asian Tour number one, posted a thrilling one-stroke victory at the Hero Honda Indian Open at Delhi Golf Club to move up to 101st in the Official World Golf Ranking and fifth place on the Order of Merit. A run of big-money events towards the end of the season could easily see Liang overcome the US$324,000 difference between him and current leader Mark Brown of New Zealand. But the 30-year-old Zhongshan golfer is thinking of only one thing at the moment, which is to keep improving on his game.
