Dubai-Bound Singh Sets Himself World Top-20 Target In 2009

Dubai (January 5): Indian Jeev Milkha Singh is confident of producing another strong finish in 'his home away from home' when he tees up in the Dubai Desert Classic at the Emirates Golf Club from January 29 to February 1.
With his game in ‘excellent shape’, the 37-year-old heads to Dubai on the back of an incredible wave of success in 2008, winning four times across the globe and topping the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit for the second time in three years. He was also chosen as the Players’ Player of the Year in Asia.
“I have proven myself again – and now it’s time to move on to bigger things. I think I’ve got the game, and the confidence, to win any tournament, even a Major Championship,” said Singh, who netted US$1.4 million in prize money on the Asian Tour in a single season last year to become the circuit’s first ‘million dollar man'.

Sergio Sets His Sights On An Early-Season Surge For World Number One Spot

Doha (January 3): After the best year of his professional career, world number two Sergio Garcia will jet in to Doha for the 2009 Commercialbank Qatar Masters with one eye on the top of the world rankings.
The 28-year-old Spaniard has added his name to a growing list of golfing heavyweights for the 12th staging of the US$2.5 million PGA European Tour event to be held at Doha Golf Club from January 22-25.
With world number one Tiger Woods sidelined through injury, Garcia is currently the hottest player on the planet and his inclusion in the 120-man Doha field is another massive boost for an event staged by the Qatar Golf Association (QGA), Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Commercialbank. |

Confident Prayad Sounds Royal Trophy Battlecry For Asia

Bangkok (January 2): Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng will be one of the key figures in Asia's bid to raise aloft the Royal Trophy for the first time next week.
Ahead of the third edition of the match play clash between Asia and Europe that will take place at Bangkok's Amata Spring Country Club from January 9-11, Prayad discussed the state of his game going into the contest.
He also revealed how he and his team mates will need to play to the absolute peak of their powers if they're to overcome the Jose Maria Olazabal-led Europeans.

Late-Season Asian Swing Adds Lustre To 2009 Ladies European Tour

London (December 29): The Ladies European Tour (LET) has confirmed that its 2009 schedule will include stops in China, Korea and India.
Alexandra Armas, the LET's executive director, said next year's itinerary is made up of 27 events in 22 different countries. “In 2008 the Ladies European Tour enjoyed an unprecedented level of success and we are delighted to consolidate our growth despite the current global financial crisis,” said Armas.
The trio of Asian events will tee-off from October 28 to November 1 with the Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open in Shanghai. The inaugural event in 2008 was won by Swede Annika Sorenstam at the Suzhou Taihu International Golf Club.

High Hopes As China LPGA Tour Prepares For 2009 Launch

Xiamen, Fujian (December 26): The China Golf Association (CGA) and the Orient Golf Group have confirmed the launch of the China LPGA Tour. It will be started in 2009 with the aim to stage 20 tournaments annually within five years.
Eight events, commencing in April or May, are tentatively scheduled to be staged next year. They will incorporate the four existing Orient Masters Tour events and culminate in the fourth edition of the season-ending China Ladies Open.
Zhao Xiaoning, the CGA's secretary-general, said the new Tour was another responsibility of the body in leading the development of golf across China.
