WGC Bridgestone Invitational: Firestone Triumph For Wonderful Woods

Akron, Ohio (August 9): Tiger Woods was in imperious form as he landed the World Golf Championships - Bridgestone Invitational for a record seventh time after a titanic battle with Padraig Harrington at Firestone Country Club. The American finished with a five-under-par round of 65 to end the week with a 12-under 268 aggregate, four shots better than Harrington and Australian Robert Allenby. The win is the 70th of Woods' career on the PGA Tour in 248 career starts (234 as a professional). As a result, he moves within three victories of tying Jack Nicklaus (73 wins) for second place on the all-time Tour wins list. Sam Snead, with 82 wins, leads the list. Woods has won 16 World Golf Championships events in 30 starts.

Sun Chlorella Classic: Stunning Success For Mighty Teen Ishikawa

Hokkaido (August 2): Teenage sensation Ryo Ishikawa wrote another remarkable chapter in his young history with an accomplished wire-to-wire win in the 150 million yen (about US$1.5 million) Sun Chlorella Classic. Still six weeks shy of his 18th birthday, Ishikawa carded a closing five-under-par 67 over the 7,535-yard Otaru Country Club course in Hokkaido Prefecture on Sunday. That gave him a 72-hole aggregate of 17-under-par 271 and a one-shot victory from fast-finishing Australian Brendan Jones, who signed for a final-day 65. Ishikawa, who held his nerve to snare a tournament-winning eight-foot birdie putt on the final hole, said: "I never had a neck-to-neck battle like this. I felt the difficulty of starting the final round with the lead. Luckily, I ended up winning, but it could've gone either way."
