Award-Winning Garden Course To Host World's Best


Singapore (December 10): Tanah Merah Country Club (TMCC) will once more be thrust into the international limelight when it plays host to the third edition of the HSBC Women’s Champions. Winner of the Best Course in Singapore in the 2009 Asian Golf Monthly Awards, TMCC's Garden Course will be the venue for Korean Shin Ji-yai's title defence from February 25-28. Guy Harvey-Samuel, CEO HSBC Singapore, said: "We are delighted that the HSBC Women’s Champions is returning to Tanah Merah Country Club for the third year and are looking forward to another world-class competition on the championship Garden Course.

PGA Tour's Asian Expansion Confirmed With Kuala Lumpur Classic


Kuala Lumpur (December 8): Malaysia's Mines Resort & Golf Club will play host to next year's inaugural US$6 million Asia Pacific Golf Classic. The top 25 players from the PGA Tour’s 2010 final FedExCup standings will automatically qualify, as will the top-10 available players from the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit. The field will be filled by five sponsor exemptions. At least one Malaysian professional is guaranteed a place in the field. The winner will receive US$1 million. Although the dates have yet to be confirmed, the 40-man event is likely to take place in the last week of October, the week before the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai.

Khon Kaen, Thailand (December 6): Asian Tour number one Thongchai Jaidee hailed his 2009 season as the 'best year of my life' on Sunday ... and then set his sights on next year’s Majors. The Thai star ended a memorable campaign with an equal 11th place finish at the King’s Cup at the Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club as he was officially crowned Asia’s number one for a record third time. The former paratrooper won twice this season, finished top-10 in three other events and did not miss a single cut on the Asian Tour to earn a little over US$980,000, his career highest earnings in a single season.

Australian Great Norman Paints A Positive Picture


Sydney (December 5): Golfing legend Greg Norman is adamant the game will emerge from the controversy surrounding world number one Tiger Woods with its image firmly in tact, insisting Australian interest in the game is at an all-time high. Norman, who was forced to withdraw from the 2009 Australian Open following shoulder surgery in September, was on hand at New South Wales Golf Club on Saturday to carry out an array of duties including conducting a junior clinic. While reluctant to speculate on the recent revelations of Woods' alleged 'transgressions', Norman expressed sympathy over his current predicament but rejected suggestions the negative publicity will damage golf's overall brand.

More Twists And Turns In Fast-Moving Tiger Saga


Orlando (December 4): Just when you thought that the Tiger Woods escapade couldn’t get any more unusual comes a new revelation. The world’s top-ranked golfer was found shoeless and snoring by his crashed SUV in the early-morning hours of November 27 near his mansion in Windermere, according to an eyewitness account. Neighbours Jarius Lavar Adams and his sister Kimberly Harris spoke with Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) investigators 14 hours after Adams called 911 in response to Woods’ crash in the exclusive Isleworth community near Orlando. The FHP released the audio portion of the interview on December 3.
