Open Championship: Chun Relishes Steep Learning Curve
St Andrews, Scotland (July 16): For Eric Chun, his first taste of Major championship golf proved an experience that will live with him for the rest of his life.
“It’s been an awesome week – one of the toughest of my life ... but also one of the most fun,” said the US-based Korean amateur, after signing for a four-over-par 76 in the second round at St Andrews.
Although his 36-hole aggregate of 147 meant he failed to progress to the weekend, the Northwestern University student was able to draw a whole host of positives from his participation in the 150th anniversary Open Championship.
“I’ve learnt so much this week. I’ve had to hit shots that I’ve never hit before. It’s been fun and it’s shown me that this type of golf you have to be creative with your shots."

Major Ambition Continues To Drive England's Westwood
St Andrews, Scotland (July 13): Lee Westwood was talking the language of losing in the days and weeks following his near miss at last year’s Open Championship at Turnberry. But the 37-year-old Englishman turned negatives into positives, disappointment into hope, defeat into victory and reeled off a remarkable run of results to finish 2009 on top of the European Tour tree.
Now, with the Claret Jug up for grabs for the 139th time at the ‘Home of Golf’ this week, Westwood has his focus firmly fixed on a Major and his renaissance would be complete were he to convert Open Championship anguish into the joy that comes from fulfilling a lifetime’s ambition.
He said: "The Majors are where I can improve the most because I haven't won one, and that's everybody's goal I would guess. It's the yardstick by which all top professionals are measured.”
